šŸ’•Ā Meet Auntie Angela

Sugars, today’s tea is extra special. We’re talking to Auntie Angela Rani Terrell — filmmaker, mama bear, prayer warrior, and yes, big sister to Auntie M herself!

She’s a true D.C. girl who grew up in Southeast and is now living that Maryland life. But more than anything, Auntie Angela is proof that your faith can fuel your purpose — no matter where life takes you.

ā€œThe world needs my voice. I will not shrink, I will not cower, I will not hide.ā€ šŸŒāœØ

šŸŽ¬Ā Finding Purpose Through Film

After years working in television (fun fact: she started with Connie Chung!), Angela took time off to raise her kids — but her calling never left her.

ā€œThe Lord laid it on my heart over 13 years ago to make a film called Women of Faith: Coping with Trauma.ā€

The film follows four women from Prince George’s County who survived childhood abuse and rebuilt their lives with love, scripture, and strength. šŸ’ŖšŸ½

šŸ’” The Tea:Ā

Healing is heavy work, but telling your story turns pain into power

šŸ’Ā Sugar Q: ā€œWhat is mental health, really?ā€

Auntie Angela keeps it real — ā€œMental health is just like your physical health,ā€ she says. ā€œYou go to the doctor for your body, right? You can go to someone for your mind, too.ā€

She loves Therapy for Black Girls — a directory where you can find therapists who look like youĀ and get you.

ā€œWe all need somebody we can talk to — someone who can help us manage our thoughts and emotions.ā€

šŸ’” The Tea:Ā

Therapy isn’t weakness — it’s wisdom. šŸ§ šŸ’–

šŸ’ŒĀ Sugar Q: ā€œHow do I hear God’s voice?ā€

Angela admits — it’s hard with all the noise out there. ā€œWe’ve got phones, friends, YouTube, TikTok — chatter everywhere. You have to quiet the noise.ā€

Her advice?

  • Pray before you scroll šŸ“±

  • Go to church or a safe space that grounds you

  • Start with small devotionals (she loves In Touch Magazine)

ā€œGod won’t shout over the noise. You have to make space to hear Him.ā€

šŸ’” The Tea:Ā

Faith isn’t found in the scroll — it’s found in the stillness. šŸŒ™

šŸŽ“Ā Sugar Q: ā€œHow do I pick the right college?ā€

Auntie Angela’s got two girls in high school, so she’s living this question in real-time! Her secret? Know yourself.

ā€œFigure out your purpose — what are your strengths, your talents, your interests? Then find the school that fits you.ā€

She says to consider everything — your major, the vibe of the campus, even the food and the dorms (because yes, that matters šŸ˜…).

šŸ’” The Tea:Ā

College is more than a logo on a hoodie — it’s a match for who you’re becoming.

šŸ’”Ā Sugar Q: ā€œHow do I help a friend whose parents are divorcing?ā€

Angela’s been there, too. Her first message is gentle but firm:

ā€œ99% of the time, it’s not about you. It’s your parents figuring out their values and goals.ā€

She recommends support groups like Divorce Care for KidsĀ and — most importantly — learning the art of forgiveness.

ā€œYou don’t want to carry that pain into your own story. Let it go. You’re still whole.ā€

šŸ’” The Tea:Ā

Your parents’ story isn’t your destiny, sugar. šŸ’—

šŸ€Ā Sugar Q: ā€œHow do I handle losing a big game?ā€

Angela says life’s a wave — ups and downs, wins and losses.

ā€œYou can’t control the outcome. But you can control your effort. Ask yourself: did I give it my all?ā€

šŸ’” The Tea:Ā

Losing isn’t failure. It’s feedback for your next comeback. šŸ’ŖšŸ¾

šŸ‘‘Ā Sugar Q: ā€œWhat’s something you wish you knew in high school?ā€

Angela laughs, remembering her Georgetown VisitationĀ days (and her nickname — ā€œSexy Ronnie Babyā€ šŸ‘€Ā because her skirts were way below the knee).

ā€œI wish someone told me to be unapologetically me. God made me with purpose. The world needs what I bring.ā€

šŸ’” The Tea:Ā

Don’t shrink your shine to fit into someone else’s light.

šŸ’—Ā Simi’s Sip

Angela Rani Terrell reminds us that grace, faith, and authenticity will carry you further than perfection ever could.

Whatever stage you’re in — remember this: the world needs your voice, just as it is. šŸŽ¤

Not a lecture, just a sip of tea. ā˜•šŸ’‹
