đ Sugar Q: âWhy wonât my mom help me with my college applications?â
Hey Sugar đ, Auntea Chelly gets this one â because she lived it.
âI was the oldest and first in my family to go to college. My parents didnât know how to help â they just knew I was going.â
Sometimes, your mom isnât holding back on purpose. She might not know what steps to take. But that doesnât mean she doesnât care.
đĄÂ The Tea:
Your mom canât give what she never got. Sheâs cheering you on in her own way â even if sheâs not sitting next to you filling out forms.
Ask for help from your village â teachers, counselors, your favorite auntie, even the admissions office at local colleges. The help you need might be closer than you think. đ¸
đŹÂ Sugar Q: âHow can I convince my parents to let me date?â
Letâs be real â this oneâs tricky. đ
Auntea Chelly says, donât start by convincing. Start by communicating.
âMy mom had a no-dating rule, but I was dating anyway â secretly! I wish I had just talked to her about it.â
She later learned that her momâs ânoâ came from fear â wanting her to focus on school and stay safe.
đĄÂ The Tea:
Ask your parents why they feel the way they do, then share your side. When you open up honestly, theyâre more likely to trust you. And remember: dating is a responsibility, not just a vibe. â¤ď¸
đđ˝Â Sugar Q: âShould I stand up for my friend if weâre outnumbered?â
Whew. This oneâs real.
âMy friend was ready to fight. I looked at her like â girl, this may not go the way you think.â
Auntea Chellyâs Brooklyn roots kicked in. She knew when to hold âem and when to fold âem. Not every fight is worth catching hands for.
đĄÂ The Tea:
Being a real friend doesnât always mean throwing punches. Sometimes, standing up means helping your friend walk away.
If itâs dangerous â find an adult, call for help, or defuse it. Being brave isnât about fighting. Itâs about thinking. đ§ â¨
â¨Â Sugar Q: âCan I talk myself into having more confidence?â
Yes, Sugar â but it starts with knowing who you are.
âEveryone has a bit of magic. You just have to find yours.â
Auntea Chelly says confidence isnât about being the loudest or flashiest. Itâs about owning your strengths â the quiet ones, the creative ones, the different ones.
đĄÂ The Tea:
Stop copying everyone elseâs highlight reel. Your shine looks best when itâs yours. đ
đ Simiâs Sip
You donât need to be like anyone else to stand out. Your power is already in you â your story, your smile, your voice.
Take your time, Sugar. Youâre exactly who youâre supposed to be becoming.
Not a lecture, just a sip of tea. âđ
