đ Sugar Q: âMy mom is behind on rent. Iâm thinking about dropping out to help her. What should I do?â
Hey Sugar đ,
We feel you. When things get tough at home, itâs natural to want to step in and help. But Auntea Krystal says one thing loud and clear:
âDo not leave school.â
She gets that the pressure is real â keeping the lights on, putting food on the table â but she also wants you to know youâre not in this alone.
âThere are so many programs in DC that can help families pay rent â sometimes up to a year.â
đĄÂ The Tea:
Stay in school, Sugar. That diploma is your ticket to long-term success (and higher pay later đđœ).
If you want to help, pick up a part-time job â weekends, after school â but donât give up your education for a temporary fix.
And if your mom is struggling, Auntea Krystal suggests checking out:
DC Department of Human Services (DHS)
Department of Behavioral Health
DC Housing Authority (DCHA)
You can even share the links with her so she knows sheâs not alone. đ©·
đšÂ Sugar Q: âMy boyfriend keeps pressuring me to try edibles or smoke. He says heâll break up with me if I donât.â
Letâs get real. đš
If someoneâs forcing you to do something youâre not comfortable with â thatâs not love. Thatâs control.
Auntea Krystal breaks it down:
âYour significant other would never suggest something that could put you in harmâs way.â
Hereâs the truth: weed and edibles might be âlegalâ for adults, but not for teens. And these days, itâs dangerous â because whatâs sold as marijuana could be laced with fentanyl or other chemicals.
âYou donât know who really made it. You might know whoâs selling it, but you donât know whatâs in it.â
And once itâs in your system, it can mess with your focus, your decisions, even your safety.
đĄÂ The Tea:
If someone says, âDo this or Iâll leave,â thatâs manipulation â not love.
A real one wants you clear-headed, safe, and you.
So say no to the puff, yes to your power. âš
âĄÂ Sugar Q: âHow do I know if Iâm in a toxic friendship?â
This one hits deep. Friendships can be tricky â especially when you want to believe the best in people. But Auntea Krystal says your spirit already knows:
âYour intuition tells you. You can feel when someoneâs energy doesnât sit right.â
Pay attention to your vibe when youâre around them. Do you feel drained or uplifted?
âIf you leave a friendâs presence feeling empty, thatâs your sign.â
đĄÂ The Tea:
A real friend doesnât belittle you, use you, or share your secrets. They pour into you â not pull from you.
And remember: your tribe might not look like you, sound like you, or come from the same place. Keep an open mind. The right ones will respect your spirit, not just your style. đ
