šĀ Sugar Q: āHow do I know when to trust my gut?ā
Auntea Joy learned that lesson early ā in heels. š
āI once went to a modeling job and found out it was for a cigarette company. They wanted us to give out packs in clubs ā to people who looked 18. I couldnāt do it. I said no, even though I thought it might ruin my career.ā
That moment changed everything.
š”Ā The Tea:
When your gut whispers āno,ā listen. Real power is walking away from what doesnāt align with your values ā even when no oneās watching.
šĀ Sugar Q: āWhere are you from?ā
Joyās accent isnāt just glam ā itās global. š
āI was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. My family speaks Igbo, and in Nigeria, we have over 100 tribes and languages! When we say hello, we say Kedu ā or in broken English, How far now?ā
Her story reminds us that culture is power ā and your roots are nothing to hide.
š”Ā The Tea:
Never shrink your story. The parts that make you different are the parts that make you shine. āØ
šĀ Sugar Q: āHow did you get through hard times growing up?ā
Joyās path wasnāt easy. Her father and brother were both victims of gun violence ā and her family had to rebuild from scratch.
āI thought we were cursed. But my mom showed me strength. If she could raise four kids alone in a new country, I could make it too.ā
š”Ā The Tea:
Hardship doesnāt define you ā how you rise from it does.
ā¤ļøĀ Sugar Q: āWhat if I donāt make the team?ā
āTry again! I didnāt make varsity the first time either. But I kept practicing, tried again, made it, and ended up in my schoolās Hall of Fame.ā
š”Ā The Tea:
Failure isnāt a stop sign. Itās a red light that turns green if you keep going. šŖš¾
š«Ā Sugar Q: āHow do I keep going when my familyās going through a lot?ā
āStay close to your people. Be there for each other. Find your tribe ā your church, coaches, teachers. Show up. People showing up for me is what saved me.ā
Sometimes healing looks like community. Sometimes it looks like crying and still choosing to get up tomorrow.
š”Ā The Tea:
You donāt need to be perfect to be powerful. You just need to keep showing up.
šĀ Simiās Sip
The world will try to tell you who you are ā especially when youāre still figuring it out.Know your boundaries, trust your gut, and never be afraid to stand on what you believe in.
Not a lecture, just a sip of tea.Ā āš
