🌸 Who Is Auntie Patricia?
Hey Sugars 💕 — today we’re sipping tea with Dr. Patricia Elam Walker, a woman who’s lived many lives in one.
She’s been a lawyer, a journalist, a college professor, and now a children’s book author — but through it all, she’s stayed true to one thing: her voice.
“Every job I’ve had has been about storytelling,” she said. “I just use different tools to tell the story.”
⚖️ The Law Was Her First Lesson
Before she became the author of the award-winning Dreams for a Daughter, Auntie Patricia was in the courtroom — literally.
“I started out practicing law, but I always felt this creative tug,” she shared. “Writing was my first love.”
That’s your reminder, sugar: you can follow the rules and still write your own story.
✍🏾 Words With Purpose
Auntie Patricia’s words have appeared in magazines, anthologies, and classrooms across the country — but her heart is with young readers.
“Children’s books let me plant seeds of self-love and imagination,” she said. “I want Black girls to see themselves as powerful, curious, and free.”
💡 The Tea:
What you create matters — even the small things. You never know who’s watching and getting inspired.
🧘🏾♀️ The Power of the Pivot
Switching careers isn’t easy, but Auntie Patricia made it look graceful.
“People think they have to stay in one lane forever. You don’t,” she said. “You can evolve and still honor who you’ve always been.”
Whether you’re changing schools, friend groups, or dreams — your worth doesn’t change. Your story just gets richer.
💬 Sugar Q: “What if I’m scared to speak up?”
Auntie Patricia smiled and leaned in like she was sharing a secret.
“Use your voice — even when it shakes,” she said. “You can’t let fear silence your purpose.”
That’s a word right there. 🎤💅🏾
💋 Simi’s Sip
Auntie Patricia reminds us that life isn’t a straight line — it’s a journey of listening, learning, and loving yourself enough to try again.
So whether you’re standing in a courtroom or a classroom, remember: your story is worth telling, sugar.
Not a lecture, just a sip of tea. ☕💖
