Uncle: Rev. Dr. James E. Terrell
Topic:Ā Faith, forgiveness, and learning to listen for Godās voice

āĀ Meet Great Uncle James
Yes, sugars ā this episodeās tea comes from a realĀ OG: Rev. Dr. James Terrell, educator, minister, and father of our very own Auntie M (Marisa Terrell)! šĀ Heās proof that wisdom never goes out of style. From growing up in a big family in Akron, Ohio, to becoming a Rhodes Scholarālevel thinker, Uncle James has seenĀ things and lived to tell the story with grace.
āGrowing up in a house with ten kids, you didnāt have a teenage phase ā you had a working phase.ā
šĀ Sugar Q: āHow do I know when Iām hearing Godās voice?ā
Uncle James says the first step is relationship.
āIn order to hear Godās voice, you have to spend time learning who God is.ā
That means faith isnāt just about talking ā itās about studying and listening. The more you read, reflect, and stay close to your faith, the easier it gets to tell the difference between your thoughts and Godās direction.
š”Ā The Tea:Ā
Get quiet. Stay curious. The more you know Godās heart, the clearer His voice becomes.
šš½Ā Sugar Q: āWhat if I pray and nothing changes?ā
Weāve all been there ā you pray about the test, the drama, or that friend whoās been tripping... and it still feels the same. Uncle James reminds us:
āYou have to study and grow your faith. Itās not magic ā itās connection.ā
Faith takes practice, like volleyball or geometry. You donāt give up after one try ā you train your spirit.
š”Ā The Tea:
Prayer works even when it feels like it doesnāt. Growth is happening underground before it blooms. š±
š¬Ā Sugar Q: āHow do I stand up for myself without being disrespectful?ā
Uncle James keeps it real ā life will always have authority figures, from teachers to bosses to parents.
āThereās always someone over us ā ultimately God ā but we can respond with peace, not pride.ā
Instead of reacting fast (like we see on social media), he says pause, breathe, and think. Most people mean well ā even when it doesnāt sound that way.
š”Ā The Tea:Ā Ā
You can be strong and respectful at the same time. Grace is power in slow motion. šø
ā¤ļøĀ Sugar Q: āWhatās one thing youād redo as a teen?ā
Without missing a beat, Uncle James says:
āIād be nicer to my parents.ā
He laughs, but he means it. They were doing their best with what they had ā and sometimes, it takes growing up to see that.
š”Ā The Tea:Ā
Gratitude is maturity. Hug your parents, your grandma, your guardian ā theyāre cheering for you more than you know. š¤
š·Ā Sugar Q: āHow do I forgive myself?ā
Uncle James closes with what might be the realest advice of all:
āWe all make mistakes. The key is to be gentle with yourself and keep moving forward.ā
No one gets through life without messing up. What matters is how you bounce back.
š”Ā The Tea:Ā
You canāt undo the past, but you can start fresh today. Give yourself grace ā youāre doing better than you think. āØ
šĀ Simiās Sip
Sometimes faith feels like a whisper, not a shout ā and thatās okay. Uncle James reminds us that peace, patience, and forgiveness start on the inside. The goal isnāt perfection... itās progress.
Not a lecture, just a sip of tea.Ā āš
